This photo was taken by a visitor and friend of ours, Mark Yaggie. Our carrots this year amazed us all with their flavor and beauty! |

I guess you could say this is our skeleton crew for 2009. We are definitely loving life out here at Montesino. Photo by Mark Yaggie |

This is one of Scott's big projects. We have a tower this tank will be mounted on and on top of it will be a windmill. All of this will be done so that we can harness wind energy (we have a lot here) and return to the grid what we use. |

Lovely raddichio. The red veins in raddichio are so amazing. |
|
|
These radishes were taking a bath before getting pickled. We had quite an unreal bounty of radishes this year which led to our rainy day pickling project. |

This is our future house being delivered through the flower garden. It was the only way, but it sure was odd seeing half a house roll through our field. |

Our first success with napa cabbage! They are silent slow growers, just when you think all is lost, you cut one and it is 5 lbs! |

We haven't seen many monarchs this year, but the swallowtails have been plentiful. |

Melody took the side of precaution and wore an extra thick suit to check out our beehives. She gets stung enough cutting flowers. Those bees love their flowers ! |

This is the table spread for our first Dai Due dinner with Chef Jesse Griffiths and his team of amazing people. We had planned for an evening outdoors but the May rain brought us indoors and we were all delighted! |

Jesse brings EVERYTHING when he sets up, including this awesome grill. |

These pleased diners are Marisa, a Montesino intern, and Pam Burk, our field coordinator's mother. |

Our barn was filled and so were our tummies! Everyone was very pleased with the evening. |

We have added to our duck flock for increased egg production...but these guys also earn their keep by being great organic grasshopper controllers. |

We are implementing new compost techniques as advised by soil biologist, Dr. Elaine Ingham. |

Thank goodness for our backhoe. It made adding the layers much easier. |

Each layer of the compost pile still had to be spread out by hand. |

And each layer got watered. |
